One of the most important activity (and almost a basic one) that we do, almost daily, is to buy food or order food from any food serving establishment. If you stay in a five-star hotel or restaurant, communicating in English is expected and the staff are trained to assist foreign guests. However, it is a different story if you buy from wet markets or sari-sari where storekeepers are used to dealing with their neighbors and barangayfolks. Even though storekeepers can speak and understand English, they would really appreciate it if you will try to talk to them in the local language. This topic will give you the basic expression to use when ordering food or asking for an item from the storekeeper. When they bring you the item, you can simply say: Salamat.
