Mga pulong bahin sa panahon = words about the weather

Kumusta na mga kahigalaan ko?   I've decided to give a review lesson of different words related to panahon/tiyempo (weather).  The Philippines just suffered five typhoons in about three weeks.  It's crazy; right? Typhoons are our frequent unwanted bisita (visitor).  I kid you not, we get over 20 bagyo (typhoons) a year, of different intensity.  For those who don't know, in the Philippines, typhoons are classified into different kinds of signals and people pay attention to them because the signal number of the bagyo will determine if people will stay at home or not.  For example:

Signal Number 1 - pre-school and elementary school students will not be going to school.
Signal Number 2 - pre-school, elementary and high school classes are suspended.
Signal Number 3, 4 and 5 - Classes in all levels are canceled.

Let's use some of the vocabulary in context:

1. Uwan (rain) -  Kusog ang uwan.   (The rain is strong.)
                            Nag-uwan. (It's raining.)

2. Adlaw (sun/day)-   Wala'y adlaw karon.  (There is no sun today.)
Hayag kaayo ang adlaw.  (The sun is very bright.)

3. Hangin (wind)  -   Kusog ang hangin.  (The wind is strong.)
*Hanginon karong panahona.  (The weather now is windy)
Hangin kaayo.  (It is very windy)

4. Bagyo (storm/unos) - Nagbagyo.  (It's stormy.
                                      Naay bagyo.  (There's a storm.)
Tingbagyo na.   (It's already the stormy season.)

5. Taligsik (drizzle) -   Nagtaligsik.  (It's drizzling)
                                     Taligsik man.  (It's drizzling.)

6. Niyebe (snow) -   Nagniyebe.  (It's snowy.)
                                 Tingniyebe.  (It's wintertime.)

*Hanginon is also used to describe a person who loves to brag/ a braggart.  So we can say:  kahanginon baya niya. (He is such as brag.) There are two basic panahon (weather) seasons in the Philippines, the wet and dry season.  The wet season is from June to October and the dry season from November to May.   So plan your vacation carefully so that you arrive at the season of your choice.  Otherwise, you might not enjoy it because you will be staying mostly indoors if you come during the wet season.

These are just some of the vocabularies to describe weather conditions.   If you wish to add more, please feel free to comment in the comment section.
