IN RAMIL'S HOUSE:

RAMIL’S MOM:
Wa man kuno magdugay  dinhi si Paulene.   Paulene didn’t stay long here, I heard.

RAMIL:
                  Yes, mom.  Yes, mom.

RAMIL’S MOM:
                 Ngano man?   And why?

RAMIL:
                  babaying flirt.
Isn’t it unethical for a lady to be the one visiting a guy?  I don’t like flirt girls.

RAMIL’S MOM:
Pasalamat ka nga nagkagusto nimo si Paulene.
You should be thankful that Paulene likes you.
RAMIL:
Mommy, please. Ayaw siya’g ipamugos nako. Bisan gamay wa ko makagusto kang Paulene.                   Mommy, please.
Don’t force her on me.  I have no liking for Paulene, even a little.

RAMIL’S MOM:
anak.  Paulene’s mom and I already agreed.  We  agreed that you and her
daughter will  marry each other.

RAMIL:
Murag dili man tingali na inyong katungod, mommy.  I don’t think that is your right, mommy.

RAMIL’S MOM:
             Ramil! Basig --  Ramil – I might --

RAMIL:
I’m sorry, mommy.  I’m sorry, mommy.
This time, mahimo ko’ng masinupakon nga pagka anak.  This time, I will be a rebellious son.
I know that when daddy returns from his business trip, he will understand me.
Maong mommy, sabta sab ko.  Please.  That’s why mommy, please understand me.

RAMIL’S MOM:
             Haaayyyy  Haaayyyy…

IN LEAH'S HOME:

LEA:
Nakasabot man ko ‘Pa ba. Di’ na man kinahanglan nga tagsa-tagsaon pa ‘na nimo og                           pasabot nako.
Father, I understand.  You don’t need to explain that to me one by one.

LOLA PINANG:
Bitaw ‘dong. Bright man gyud ‘ning akong apo ba. Dali ra man  kaayo ‘ni makasabot.
That’s right, ‘dong.  This grandchild of mine is really bright.  You can easily make her
                understand.

PAPA SANTI:
Nahibawo ko ana ‘ma.   I know that ‘ma.
But I just really want for Lea to understand that our sending her to school in the city
is already a big effort for us.
syudad, ato unta ‘to iglulukat sa naprinda natong  yuta.
You know that the money we sent for her school expenses in the city, we were supposed to
redeem our pawned land with that.
So that it will be instilled in Lea’s head to do well in her studies.

LEA:
Sure lagi nga magtarong ko ‘Pa. Salig lang gud nako.
I will surely do well ‘Pa.  Just trust me.

PAPA SANTI:
Salig ko nimo anak. Okay, anak.
I trust you, my child.  Okay, my child.

LOLA PINANG:
O, si Leo na.  Anaa niabot. Mao na.
                O, that’s Leo.  He’s arrived.  That’s him.
            Naa na si Leo.
                Leo’s here already.

LEO:
Ay ‘Pa. Amin sa ‘ko ‘Pa ‘bi.
Oh, ‘Pa.  Blessings from you, ‘Pa.  Here.

PAPA SANTI:
           Kaloy-an ka sa Ginoo, anak.
                God bless you, my child.

LEO:
           ‘La.  Grandma.

LOLA PINANG:
           Uhm.

LEA:
          Dali ‘dong.  Come here, ‘dong.

LEO:
         Paos-paos gud og lakaw oy.
I got hoarse from working all day.

PAPA SANTI:
        Sigi na, pangaon na ‘mo.
                You go ahead eat now.

LEO:
Nabinlan pa jud ko og kamoti.
There’s some camote left for me.

PAPA SANTI:
        Sigi na, kaon na.
                Go, eat now.

LEA:
        Imo baya ng paborito ‘dong.
                That’s your favorite, ‘dong.

LEO:
Kamo diay?  How about you guys?

LOLA PINANG:
        Hala, kaon dayon.
                Go, eat fast.

LEA:
       Lami ‘dong ‘sa?
                It’s delicious, ‘dong, right?

PAPA SANTI:
       Uhm. Paniti ‘day.
                Peel him some, ‘day.
Anak, kumusta imong pagpamasahiro og traysikad?
My child, how is your driving of the traysikad?

Traysikad man imong gidala no kay wala man diay ka kaabang sa trycicle?
You’re driving a traysikad because you could not rent a trycicle, right?

LEO:
Oh, it's okay, ‘Pa.  I will go back in a bit because I might be able to get a little extra.
Then I can add my savings for ‘Day Lea’s pocket money.

LEA:
Ma-touch man lang pod ‘ta. Thank you, ninyo ‘Dong, ha? Nagtinabangay jud mo para lang ko
makaiskwila.
I can’t help but feel touched by all these.  Thank you all, ‘Dong, ha?  You all helped each
other just to be able to send me to school.

PAPA SANTI:
That’s what you should reflect very seriously, my child, that your happiness was made our
                priority.

LEO:
Ingon ana gyud ka namo kamahal ‘Day. Busa, pagtinarong gyud didto sa syudad, ha?
That’s how much we love you, ‘Day.  So, you better behave in the city, okay?

LOLA PINANG:
Bitaw apo, pagbinuotan gyud didto, ha?
That’s right, my grandchild.  Behave properly there, okay?

LEA:
Promise lagi nako ninyo lola, ‘Dong Leo, Papa Santi nga magtinarong gyud ko sa akong pag-
         iskwila.
I really promise you all, lola, ‘Dong Leo, Papa Santi that I will really be serious in my
                studies.

IN RAMIL'S HOUSE:

PAULENE:
Buotan man ko tita ba.
I really don’t know why Ramil doesn’t like me when I’m really a kind person, Tita.

RAMIL’S MOM:
Oh, don’t tell me that you are going to surrender?

PAULENE:
Of course not, Tita. Na-challenge hinoon ko sa pagsamot.
Of course not, Tita.  Instead, I’m even more challenged.

RAMIL’S MOM:
Uh-hum.

PAULENE:
When I love someone, I put my heart, my mind and my soul.

RAMIL’S MOM:
And?  You are used to getting what you want, aren’t you, iha?

PAULENE:
Definitely, Tita. Once I set my mind into something, never nga mo-surrender si Paulene.
Ako Si Ramil, by hook or by crook.
Definitely, Tita. Once I set my mind into something, Paulene will never surrender.                               Ramil is mine, by hook or by crook.

RAMIL’S MOM:
Well, you have my support, iha.
wedding inyo ni Ramil, with or without –

Well, you have my support, my child.  Anyway, your mom and I already have agreed                that when you and Ramil are finished with your studies, then, a grand wedding of                    yours and Ramil will happen, with or without --
