Translation from Cebuano to English: Talk to Papa Joe: Pagmata (Wake up)

SHARE:

Hi Dear Readers and Followers, Here's my translation for a popular advice column in a popular broadsheet in Cebu.  I chose this writ...

DEAR Papa Joe,

By the way, I'm Mr. Stupid.  My problem is about my girlfriend who I don't understand if she is in love with me because it seems that she is only taking me for granted.  She's very sweet if there's only the two of us or with her selected friends.  But if with others, especially with her workmates, she is ashamed of me specially if there's a party and some singing.  She would scold me if I sing because I would be  an embarrassment to her companions because i am out of tune to listen to.  Then she would tell me don't talk often with my companions because 'your mouth would smell', even if I brushed my teeth.

Unsa may buhaton nako? Buwagan na lang ba nako ni siya? Palihug tambagi ko.

I would say that we would just break up but she wouldn't leave.   Sometimes I could say that I'm just being used by her because I'm the one helping her in living here because her salary is little.  What should I do?  Should I just break up with her?   Please advise me.

Mr. Stupid,

You're the only one who can solve that problem of yours.   Sometimes, it's like drugs, like a vice that if you can take it, then you agree with your feelings.   However, you know that this is destructive to you.  That's why you should weigh things out if you should suffer when in the end of your relationship, if you end up together, you would regret instead or maybe you will never end up together.

However, your time and money were wasted.  That's why think about it, don't follow your name 'stupid.'  Wake up if you think there is no direction anymore.  That's all and thank you.

PAPA JOE
